Ven Pongal Recipe: Usually people in South Indian food prefer to eat idli, dosa or vada. But today we are going to tell you about a very popular dish of South India, which is very easy to make. Wayne Pongal is a famous South Indian breakfast that you can serve with sambar or chutney.

Ingredients for making Ven Pongal: Wen Pongal is also known as Khara Pongal. Not only this, in South Indian homes, Ven Pongal is also offered as a gift to God. Ven Pongal is made from rice and moong dal. After this, the cumin seeds, black peppers, curry leaves, ginger and green chilli are added to the ghee.

How to serve Ven Pongal: You can serve filter coffee with it if you want.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Moong Dal
  • 1 cup Raw rice
  • 2 tsp Ginger grated
  • 6 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • ---FOR TEMPERING
  • 2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 6 tbsp Ghee
  • 1/2 tsp Asafoetida
  • 3-4 Green Chillies chopped
  • 10-15 Cashew nuts
  • 10-15 Black Peppercorns coarsely ground
  • Curry leaves few

Instructions

  1. First, take rice and lentils without ghee in the pan. Keep it aside now.
  2. Then fry the cashew nuts until golden brown. Now grind the red chilly and cumin seeds.
  3. Then cut ginger into small pieces. Now wash rice and pulses.
  4. Then add a 5-6 cup of water and salt to it.
  5. Now add remaining ghee, cashews, black pepper, cumin seeds, green chillies, curry leaves and ginger in a pan.
  6. Fry it for one minute.
  7. Mix the prepared tempering in a pressure cooker and mix it well.
  8. Finally, serve cashew and ghee in Pongal with sambar.
